Bucks Field Championship report

Sunday 13th Oct saw a group of seasoned and complete field newbies out for a rather wet day at the Bucks Field Championship shoot, held at White Mark Field Archers’ superb range.

It was wet, clearing at the day progressed, but this didn’t dampen the spirits of the archers. Some found their stride quicker than others, but all had a seriously great time!

Congrats to our medal winners, all in the visitor category:

  • Nikki – Lady AFB
  • Sammi – Lady Longbow
  • Amanda – Lady Barebow
  • Richard – Gent AFB
  • Alastair – Gent Longbow
  • Iain – Gent Barebow
  • Al – only 10 points behind for silver

Tony S – An Eagles Farewell

Farewell to one of the original Eagles. Tony Speight, 81, died suddenly at home on Monday 14th May.  Tony joined EBB right at the start, having completed a short course with Nikki as part of the ReActiv8 programme with Bedford Borough Council.  He was a highly active gentleman who did not allow his failing eyesight to stop him from enjoying his archery and achieving his personal goals.

In true Eagles fashion, we shot an arrow volley in his memory at the club.  He will be sorely missed by all his fellow Eagles, including our youngest, Thomas, aged 5, who insisted on joining the volley line in Tony’s memory.

SCAS Field Champs Results

OMG! What a start to our field adventures! Soooo much fun, sooo many happy archers – it was amazing!
62 compound, recurve, barebow, traditional and longbow (yes longbows!!) archers came out to play over the weekend and everyone had great fun! The weather wasn’t as good as it could have been, but the rain more or less held off until the medal presentations, but hey-ho, that was really the last thing on the archers minds!
We had such great comments from the archers, regarding the course and facilities, that we can not go any further without thanking Ted Tricker and John Hartfield for designing the course and Chris and Sue Cox for the catering over the weekend. Comments coming back were that the course was mentally more challenging than they first thought, without being ridiculous, but also fun to shoot too! Although the course has eaten a few arrows that it has yet to spit back up – quite normal for a field course!
Our judges had a great weekend too, if the banter on the radios was anything to go by and we really appreciate their efforts in keeping us all in check during the shoot!
Sooo, onto the key results (e.g. EBB metal work!)……well done to all those that participated, you were all amazing. Well done to the competition winners and the SCAS winners too!
EBB did really well, overall, and receive the following rewards for their efforts.

Longbows
Gold Ben Ledwick, Silver Alastair Wren – a really close fought category, with Alastair 2 points ahead on day one, and Ben clawing it back on day 2 (county records for both too).
Traditional Recurve
Silver Richard Danby (and county record).
Recurve (<18)
Silver Hayden Ledwick (and SCAS champion and county record).
Compound (<15)
Gold Jade Ledwick (and SCAS Champion and county records, SCAS records and NATIONAL records!!)
County record also went to Al Morrow, barebow too!

Bedfordshire/EBB took Gold in the longbow pairs (Ben and Alastair), silver in the barebow pairs (Richard and Al), silver in the recurve pairs (Hayden along side Kestrels, Michael Klein).
Bedfordshire took gold in the mixed team event too, with Jade, Michael, Al, Richard and Ben!
In true Eagles’ fashion, we didn’t have any fuss with getting the results out and for that I would like to thank Katja Hawkey for all she did in setting up a great system and basically running around for me all weekend!
I think we not only did EBB proud but showed what a great venue Avalon Archery is. I can’t wait for the 3D shoot on the 9/10th June!!!

SCAS Field Announcement

In partnership with Avalon Archers, we are pleased to be the 2018 hosts of the SCAS Field competition on 28th/29th April 2018!

Field is an exciting form of archery, where no 2 courses are the same and all provide exciting new challenges and the Avalon courses are no exception! The bonus of working with Avalon is a great venue, beautiful views and a course with some great challenges and iconic shots!

The SCAS Field competition consists of 2 days of competition. Day 1 is an unmarked WA24 and Day 2 is a marked WA24. Entry fee is £19 for both days (and priority to entrants will be given to those attending both days).

Full catering is being provided by the wonderful Chris from Avalon and as always he will be providing great food at a very good price!

The shoot is open to ANY AGB member, no field experience needed.

We are also offering AGB membership (with no EBB access rights) for those NFAS/EFAA/etc members who would like to shoot this and other AGB field shoots, but are not interested in shooting target/clout at our Eagles main venue in Bedford. Please contact us for details.
